We are a coach referral and coaching resource site dedicated to the ethical advancement of the Coaching Profession, the development of human potential and the liberation of the human spirit.
  • We help clients find great highly trained coaches that are passionate about making a difference.
  • We help coaches build their practices and further their professional development.
  • We help people create and live more effective, fulfilling and balanced lives.
Coach Central was created by professional coaches who care deeply about coaching, and the coaching profession. We want to see clients, coaches and the coaching profession prosper, and so we are very picky about the Coaches who work with us.

Essentially, we put ourselves in the shoes of clients and asked what they would want. So we choose to associate with kind, smart, coaches with integrity, who are passionate about what they do and are as highly trained and experienced as possible.

As coaches, we love what we do. And everyday we see the value that coaching provides to our clients. We find it deeply satisfying to get to know a client and find out what is really important to them. And to play a significant role in helping clients define who they really are, what they most want to accomplish, and then to actually be there and help them do it - well it may not be magic, but it is always magical.

In addition to our clients, we respect and care about the profession of coaching. Compared to other professions, coaching is in its infancy. We would like to see more people access and benefit from coaching. We would like to help coaches become better coaches. We would like to see coaches taking pride in mastering their craft and enjoy the fruits of a successful practice, doing what they love. We would like to see the highest standards emerge to govern the training and certification of coaches, so that this profession preserves the trust and respect of the public.
The idea for Coach Central came out of ongoing discussions between a number of Professional Certified Coaches spread across the U.S. and Canada. These coaches noticed several trends emerging out of the fast growing coaching profession: Trends Affecting Coaches
  • There are more good coaches, than there are good coaches with full practices.
  • Most coaches do not enjoy marketing and fall short of fully sharing their skills with the public.
  • The cost of successfully marketing an individual coaching practice over the Internet is becoming more and more expensive. In contrast, the economies of a group marketing effort are far more attractive.
Trends Affecting Clients
  • Most clients would benefit from learning more about the coaching profession and receiving some guidance in choosing a Professional Certified Coach.
  • There are too many individuals claiming to be Professional Coaches with only minimal training. And there is confusion in client's minds as to what constitutes a truly Professional or Certified Coach and what the different coaching certifications entail.
  • There are few coaching services that allow clients to freely choose, or be matched with, the best coach for their requirements
Trends Affecting the Coaching Profession
  • There is a proliferation of new, non-ICF accredited coaching schools offering "certification" programs to coaches for less than 20 hours of remote, unsupervised learning. (Less than 1/10th what an ICF certification would entail.)

It was from a desire to create a win-win-win for these main constituents, clients, coaches and the coaching profession, that Coach Central was formed and launched.

Steve Mitten

Steve Mitten - My Story

It's often said that a good life is the enemy of a great life. Seven years ago I had a pretty good life. A wife and family I loved. Good health. Good friends. And a career that a lot of people would have died for.

After 15 years of starting and building businesses - and learning many valuable lessons - I had begun to understand how the game was played. I was managing a public company I had helped form, working with some great people, and doing business all over the globe. I loved the adventure, the camaraderie, the learning and teaching, and the prospect of having a big positive impact. At the time, I thought I would be doing what I was doing for the rest of my life.

I don't remember where I was flying home from, but to pass the time I started to count all the date stamps in my passport. To my surprise I realized that I had been away from home close to 50 weeks out of the previous 5-6 years. At that moment I had a deep realization that as much as I loved my job, I loved my family more, and I had to find something I enjoyed doing closer to home.

Shortly after my epiphany in the airplane, I joined some good friends in a personal growth seminar where I first encountered coaching.

Years later, I can still remember how strongly affected I was from my first exposure to coaching. The idea of helping others connect to what they really cared about, walk past their limitations, and create fulfilling lives and careers aligned to their gifts and passions - well I simply knew that this is what I was meant to do.

I love business. I love being an entrepreneur. But at heart I am a coach and my greatest love is helping others learn, grow and live their dreams. By striving to be really good at that, I get to live my dream, and continue to move my life from very good to even better.

Here's a more formal resume.
